‘Coursera’ on its course to NMIT Bangalore…
‘Coursera’ is said to be one of the biggest platforms for online learning, knowledge up-gradation, and student competency building in chosen domains. It is America’s massive open online education dispenser. Two of computer science professors of Stanford University namely Andrew Ng and Daphne Koller made it all possible in the year 2012. Today Coursera is a name to reckon with more than 150 university alliances across the world and 7000 courses on offer online. Many leading Universities have welcomed ‘Coursera’ offered courses to their campus in their own differentiated and unique way.
In the
9th virtual annual conference held between April 19-21, 2021, Coursera’s, top the ranking committee appreciated the efforts of Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Bangalore for including a few topical courses among the elective courses of
the Institute. NMIT came in for special mention and appreciation in the hands
of three distinguished academicians namely Mr. Raghav Gupta, MD of India &
APAC, Coursera, Dr. Ramesh Bhat, VC,
NMIMS University and Mr. Edward Roekaert, Rector, UPC Peru. It is a matter of gratification that such good work on the part of NMIT, Bangalore is being
brought on record and appreciated.
NMIT Bangalore, one of the top engineering colleges in Bangalore, has adopted Coursera inputs at three levels.
- Students have option to choose subjects as optional ones (credit-based) either from among Coursera menu of subjects or from those offered by the department of the Institute.
- Students could consider subjects from the Coursera stream as non-credit courses also.
- Coursera inputs can also be considered for inclusion in Faculty Development Programs.
As the saying goes, there is no need to invent
the wheel. We need just build the body of the vehicle and choose the power of
the engine in course of our transition to excellence. Good works wherever they
come from must be supported and integrated with. Good leaders and great
organizations need not always do different things but they need to do them
differently!
