At NMIT, Communication ability is the Priority!
It is important that every one of us irrespective of positions and dispositions needs to hone this essential skill every day and in every way. No one can ever say that he knows enough of it and that he does not need more! You may be quite good at communication with others but you do not know the dynamics involved in ’total communication’. Your success in communication, therefore, hinges on the listeners (counterparties), situation, and your own ‘self’ at that point in time. Communication is situational and would have to be multi-faceted and multi-dimensional.
Engineering grads by virtue of merit
often find themselves in high positions. However, communication ability is
found to be lacking even among them. Keeping this in mind NMIT placement team
has taken aggressive steps for enhancing linguistic and other abilities on a
war footing to help students chase dream jobs into reality.
The subject of communication is so vast that half of the paper produced in this world would have into printing about communication! However, let us briefly dwell on its heart and soul.
1. Make your communication total and one of ‘Self Expression’
2. Take care of your attitude, gestures, postures, voice, tone, tenor… while you say something.
3. Shun arrogance, high-handedness, one-up, ‘I know all’… syndrome in communication.
4. Be simple, clear, direct, straight, and brief at all times. Brevity should be the soul.
5. Relationships and the need to build one are more important than anything.
6. Your communication must work on positive vibes and lead to desired actions.
7. Make your communication, interaction always ‘inclusive’. Do not look apart. Be a part.
8. Know the people you talk to or address enough. Knowing others is respecting them!
9. Be sincere whenever you speak to others. Do not look serious and arrogant.
10. Walk your talk. Talk your walk. You are judged by what you ‘deliver’ after you have delivered a talk or presentation!
NMIT, one of the top engineering colleges in Bangalore, takes special care of the soft skill requirements of its students. This exercise greatly helps in preparing the students for high CTC placements. Among a host of soft skills, communication ability is found to be most sought after among recruiters. The placement cell at NMIT arranges a variety of guest lecturers, mocks, and interactions with HR experts and professionals to strengthen the communication and presentation skills of engineering students.
